Who can obtain an open burning permit?

Only residents living in Wayland who are open burning on a residential property can obtain a burn permit. Permits are conditional and may be revoked at any time by the Fire Chief or his designee.

How can I obtain a burn permit?

You may register online using this website. If you don't have access to a computer, then you will need to come down to the Public Safety building located at 38 Cochituate Road and apply in person with the Joint Communication Center staff (Dispatch) during normal business hours.

Do I need a permit?

Yes, you are required to obtain an open burning permit if you want to burn brush.

How do I activate my permit?

Call 1-833-995-2120 and follow the prompts to register your burn. You will need the telephone number that you used when registering your account.

What type of material can be burned?

Brush, cane, driftwood and forestry debris (but not from commercial or industrial land clearing).

Who determines what days open burning will be allowed?

The Massachusetts DEP determines when burning is acceptable based upon the air quality. However, the Fire Chief reserves the right to ban open burning based on circumstances within the Town.
